Please send in your images by noon on Saturday, October 17th for the Lions Gate Camera Club Nature competition selection.  We saw some wonderful nature images last night at Digital Night so hopefully we get some more for the competition selection.  Note that there are 4 possible categories:

  • Botanical – subjects such as wild flowers, plants, trees, fungi & algae. Germinated & grown without human assistance and in the wild.  Human elements are not allowed except where they are an integral part of the nature story (10% of less of image).  This one doesn’t get a lot of entries so it could interesting to try.
  • Nature – subjects such as animals, birds, insects, reptiles & marine subjects – under the control & feeding of humans if not obvious – such as zoos, game farms, animal preserves, aquarium etc.  Human elements are not allowed except where they are an integral part of the nature story (10% of less of image).  Scientific bands are allowed.
  • Wildlife – ONLY living & untamed mammals, birds, insects, reptiles & marine subjects – no hand of man.
  • Landscape – subjects such as weather phenomena, geological formations, landscapes, seascapes & natural phenomena, planets, stars & astronomical events – no hand of man.

Editing allowed:

  • HDR, monochrome, cropping, sharpening, dodging, burning, focus stacking (although not in Wildlife), removal of elements added by the camera (e.g. dust spots, noise & scratches), slow shutter speed (only if natural looking).

Not allowed:

  • Composites, infrared, vignettes, adding or removing or changing elements, creative filters, photo stitching, softening or blurring of background, long exposure blurring of clouds, digital frames or boarders.

Image Specifications – submitted JPEG image must comply with:
– Dimensions: maximum horizontal size is 1400 pixels & maximum vertical size is 1050 pixels.  Note: one of the dimensions must be exactly the maximum allowed size & neither dimension may exceed the maximum pixels for that dimension.
– Colour Space: sRGB
– Maximum file size: 1.8 MB

Label your images as follows:

1 – John Doe – Pretty Picture – category.jpg

Use 2 for 2nd photo etc.

Title must be 5 words or less.
Category is one of Botanical, Nature, Wildlife or Landscape.

Each member can submit up to 3 images per category but no more than 8 images total.  Note that only 1 image per member can be selected by our club to go in the competition and 8 images will be selected in total.

If you are unsure whether your image will qualify, send it in and we will figure it out for you.

Join us on Zoom on Wednesday evening, October 21st, to see all the images and hear their scores.
